Christmas At Carly’s Cupcakes | Jessica Redland | Book Review

I picked up Christmas at Carly’s Cupcake from Kindle Unlimited because it sounded exactly like something that would help put me in the Christmas spirit. What I didn’t realize at first was that this was actually the sixth book in a companion series all set at Whitsborough Bay. Luckily, I didn’t get lost with all of the characters, and their connections. In fact, I felt like I was just getting to know them for the first time.

Christmas at Carly’s Cupcakes is set in the small town of Whitsborough Bay. Inside of the town there are several unique little shops which have their own characteristics and stories. This time the focus is on a small bakery called Carly’s Cupcakes. The owner, Carly, opened the shop after the bakery that she had been working on closed and she loves what she does. She loves creating the different cakes and designs and making people smile with them. Unfortunately, there are two things which Carly really isn’t fully happy with.

The first is her sister, Bethany, who she has hired to work at the shop. Although Bethany is a sweetheart, she is a little bit of a flake. No matter how many times Carly has attempted to teach her sister how to decorate the cakes or cupcakes, she always manages to mess it up. And all of these little delemias are starting to have an impact on the business and their relationship as sisters including the preperation for Bethany’s wedding I really enjoyed reading about the two sisters and seeing them experience these changes together. Both of their hearts were always in the right place even if they didn’t always see eye to eye. Their relationship was a special one and I felt that it was even stronger by the end.

The second thing that Carly isn’t necessarily happy with is the fact that she has had feelings for her best friend Liam since she was a teenager but never acted on them. Now Liam is coming home from overseas for Christmas, and it seems like the time is perfect for her to admit her true feelings. It takes some encouragement from her friends and other shop owners but, I really liked the way everything played out. Carly and Liam had a strong history together and also had the perfect holiday spark to put a smile on my face.

I’m glad that I picked up Christmas at Carly’s Cupcakes. It was the perfect cozy read for me and it did put me in such a good Christmas like mood. I loved imagining all the different cakes that Carly was making, and watching her developing friendships with the other shop owners. I know that I will be checking out these other shop owners soon so I can learn all about their stories!
