Country Music Cowboy is the third book from the Kings of Country series. It was actually the first book I read in this series when I got approved for an advanced reader copy on Netgalley. I didn’t realize it was part of a series! You can read this by itself but, if you’re like me, and find yourself wanting to know more about the King family, I highly recommend you check out the other books in the series as well.
Country Music Cowboy follows the story of Travis King and Loretta Gram. Travis is a member of a trio called The Three Kings with his sisters, Krystal and Emmy Lou. His family is country music royalty, and he has recently found himself on the dark side of fame. In order to try to rebrand his image, his label wants him to team up with fellow country artist Loretta, who recently had her own share of tragedy. From the moment these two artists meet, it is nothing but head butting, chemistry, and tension.
Loretta does not want to deal with Travis. She is still grieving the death of her original singing partner and is afraid to go down the same path with another partying artist. On the surface, she appears to be very cold hearted but, this is just a mask that she puts up to protect herself from the rest of the world. Travis can see under this mask and she hate it. She also hates how much she is drawn to him even though she tries to hard to resist. Loretta is such a strong character and I loved that she refuses to be pushed around by anyone, including Travis.
Travis knows that he has screwed up and he is genuinely trying to prove himself again. He has enjoyed being part of the trio with his sisters but, he also wants to be able to break away and do his own thing. He is a broken soul just trying to find his way in the world. . He feels this pull to Loretta that he is having a really hard time resisting. He is tired of failing and just wants to connect with someone for real. My heart broke for Travis. I wanted him to feel that connection and believe that the people around him do love him and support him. Well except for his mother – she is once again just a toxic human being.
Country Music Cowboy is filled with a sexual tension and chemistry that kept me turning pages. This is your classic enemies to lovers set up. Loretta and Travis agree to “one night” to get each other out of their systems but one night is just not enough. I really enjoyed watching these two push each others buttons and really move this opposites attract story forward. Everyone around them could see the connection no matter how strongly they denied it.
Country Music Cowboy really brought me into the world of country music and fame that Sasha Summers has created. Within her stories, there is a touch of realness as well a sliver of reality television exaggeration. Love, laughter, music, and drama fill this story and bring everything together. I’m hopeful that this will not be the last time I am able to spend time with the King family. I just can’t seem to get enough of them. Oh, and I want to know more about Sawyer!
