The Rural Diaries | Hilarie Burton Morgan | Audiobook Review

Why did I listen to The Rural Diaries?

I listened to The Rural Diaries: Love, Livestock, and Big Life Lessons Down On Mischief Farm because I was curious to learn about author Hilarie Burton Morgan’s life outside what I knew about her on One Tree Hill. I honestly only knew bits and pieces and was excited to learn more. Also, I’ve been listening to Drama Queens (the One Tree Hill podcast) and this has made me curious about the cast. So I started The Rural Diaries and completely fell in love with the personality and strength of Hilarie Burton Morgan.

What’s The Storyline Here?

The Rural Diaries is Hilarie Burton Morgan‘s reflection of her life, specifically moving to and living in Rhinebeck, NY with her husband and children. She discusses her journey into farm life and moving from the chaos of NYC and Los Angeles to the quietness of Rhinebeck. She also discusses the personal and professional events which she experienced. This is a story of transformation and self discovery.

How Did I Like The Rural Diaries?

I adored The Rural Diaries! I really liked learning more about and Hilarie Burton Morgan, her family, and her homestead. There were so many heartwarming moments mixed with emotional tearjerking ones. This is a very open memoir and was obviously a deep reflection of her life. I loved all the references to nature, food, and reinvention; and learning about her passions and projects outside of acting. The Rural Diaries is a great introduction to the person Hilarie Burton Burton is and the way she views her life and her experiences.

How’s The Narration?

The Rural Diaries is narrated by Hilarie Burton Morgan which I feel gives a personal touch. You can tell exactly the emotions that she is experiencing from the words in the book. Her voice rises, cracks, and flows in exactly the right places. I loved the passion in her regarding the area of Rhinebeck which I have been to and found so homey and beautiful. The audiobook is 7 hours and 17 minutes long. I would recommend it to anyone that enjoys rural stories, memoirs filled with nature and good food and/or fan of Hilarie Burton Morgan and/or Jeffrey Dean Morgan. Hopefully she writes another follow up memoir because I would love to learn more about Mischief Farms.
